Child Safeguarding
Commitment to Child Safety
The Australian Powerlifting Alliance is committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for all children and young people participating in our sport. We recognise the importance of safeguarding young athletes and have established policies and procedures to ensure their well-being.
As part of this commitment, APA adheres to the Safeguarding Children and Young People Policy, which outlines the standards and responsibilities of all individuals involved in powerlifting events, including athletes, coaches, volunteers, and administrators. You can review the full policy here.
Required Forms for U18 Lifters
To ensure compliance with child safeguarding requirements, the following forms must be completed and submitted to info@powerliftingalliance.org.au & childsafety@powerliftingalliance.org.au:
- Parent/Guardian Signed Anti-Doping Form
- Parent/Guardian Signed Image Use Form
- Temporary Guardian Nomination Form
- Travel Consent Form (for interstate travel; see below for more information)
- Parent Consent Form for U18 Coaches/Volunteers
These forms help to protect young athletes and ensure proper authorisation is in place to support participation, media use and supervision.
Information for Parents and Caregivers
Parents and guardians of U18 athletes must be aware of the following requirements:
- Parents/guardians MUST be present at the competition and hold full responsibility for the supervision of their child.
- If a Parent/Guardian cannot be present, a Temporary Guardian Nomination Form must be submitted to the APA and Meet Directors at least 7 days prior to the event.
- All minor athletes (i.e., aged under 18) traveling interstate or internationally for competition must be accompanied by their legal parent or guardian.
- In extreme cases where a parent/guardian is unable to accompany their child and will be travelling interstate without their parent/guardian, a Travel Consent Form for U18s must be submitted.
- PLEASE NOTE: Coaches are not permitted to act as guardians unless they are the athlete’s lawful parent or have formal legal guardianship documentation.
- Parents/Guardians MUST be present at weigh-ins with under 18 athletes.
- The lifter (or the parent/guardian) must provide the parent/guardian's full name, phone number, and email at the time of athlete sign-up to ensure APA has proper contact information
More detailed information on Parents/Guardians rights and responsibilities can be found in the document HERE. This includes information on photography and videography, supervision, anti-doing consent, and weigh-in room information.
