Child Safeguarding

Commitment to Child Safety

The Australian Powerlifting Alliance is committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for all children and young people participating in our sport. We recognise the importance of safeguarding young athletes and have established policies and procedures to ensure their well-being.

As part of this commitment, APA adheres to the Safeguarding Children and Young People Policy, which outlines the standards and responsibilities of all individuals involved in powerlifting events, including athletes, coaches, volunteers, and administrators. You can review the full policy here.

Information for Parents and Caregivers

Parents and legal guardians of U18 athletes must be aware of the following requirements:

  • Parents/legal guardians MUST be present at all APA and IPF competitions and hold full responsibility for the supervision of their child.

  • For local and national level APA events, if a parent/legal guardian cannot be present, a Temporary Guardian Nomination Form must be submitted to the APA at least 7 days prior to the event.

  • For U18 athletes travelling interstate for a local or national level APA competition, if a parent/legal guardian cannot accompany them for the duration of the trip and the event, a Travel Consent Form for U18s must be submitted to the APA at least 7 days prior to the event. For national level events, this form may be required earlier than 7 days.

  • Any athlete under the age of 18 travelling internationally and competing at an IPF event MUST be accompanied by their parent/legal guardian only for the full duration of the travel dates and IPF event.

  • Coaches are NOT permitted to be nominated or act as guardians unless they are the athlete’s parent or legal guardian and have formal legal guardianship documentation.

  • Parents/guardians MUST be present at weigh-ins with under 18 athletes.

  • The lifter (or the parent/legal guardian) must provide the parent/legal guardian's full name, phone number, and email at the time of athlete sign-up to ensure APA has proper contact information.

More detailed information on Parents/Legal Guardians rights and responsibilities can be found in the document HERE. This includes information on photography and videography, supervision, anti-doing consent, and weigh-in room information.
