This three-day course builds a strong foundation in powerlifting coaching, combining core coaching theory with practical, sport-specific skills. It is suitable for developing coaches, club coaches, or anyone seeking to progress toward IPF accreditation.
What the course covers
Coaching theory You’ll work through the fundamentals of effective coaching, including training methodology, psychology, strength and conditioning, technical rules, anti-doping, nutrition, and key considerations for youth, women, and athletes with disabilities.
Technical and practical coaching The practical component focuses on real coaching scenarios and hands-on learning. This includes technique development, training methods, strategy, error detection and correction, athlete communication, and competition preparation. Assessments include on-platform coaching observed by an IPF international coach, along with home-based tasks.
Assessment and accreditation The course concludes with written and practical exams. Successful participants receive an official IPF Coach Diploma and membership card.
Important information
This Basic Course is not a prerequisite for the IPF Level 2 Coaching Course.
It is not a mandatory requirement for APA international coaching appointments in 2026.
From 2027 onwards, it will be mandatory for all APA international coaches.
Places are limited to 18 per year and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
